In China, eating is a highly celebrated affair, and many hours are dedicated to long lunches, even for businessmen. Everything is repeated at dinner time, when many dishes are ordered for ‘the table’, creating a feeling of sharing, community and celebration. Starting with the myriad of lip-smacking dishes on the starter menu, we’re intrigued by unusual dishes such as the Jelly Fish, Spiced Knuckle and Seaweed with Garlic. Delicious dishes that are loved by Westerners are all there, including Wonton, Dumplings and Spring Rolls. For mains, seafood seems to dominate the menu, and we can’t possibly make any decisions when Sizzling Fish, Baked Prawns and Prawns in Black Bean Sauce are all calling us. Pork dishes range from Shanghai Style Fried Sliced Pork, to Deep-fried Pork Spare Ribs, while duck dishes beckon with titles like Beijing Duck and Roasted Duck.
